An international mining company with operations throughout North America is currently searching for a General Manager for their operations in the United States. This job offers the opportunity to manage a large-scale operation that is one of the key assets in the North American business with enormous potential for long-term growth.
As the General Manager in this established mine, the key focus of this role will be to maintain the operations’ profitability and ensure that it continues to deliver long-term value to the business unit. The mine itself is currently functioning well, primarily producing copper from the open pit with secondary gold and molybdenum resources. The operation has become a key part of the small community that is close to the mine and enjoys collaborative stakeholder engagement with the local population. The community itself offers a fantastic outdoors lifestyle, with spectacular nearby national parks, golfing and excellent fishing.
On a day to day basis the Mine General Manager will have responsibility for all aspects of the operation from mining to mill, whilst reporting the VP of Open Pit Mining. Specifically this will ensure that financial and mining plans are implemented and effectively carried out in accordance with the strategic direction of the business. The General Manager will work closely with department heads to ensure any concerns are addressed and that a high standard of performance is implemented throughout the business. Above all the General Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the mine both for employees and the local community.
To be suitable for this role you will be an experienced mining professional who has managed large-scale operations at a senior level and have a proven track record of success. You will be able to demonstrate key improvements you have made to the operations you have managed, including team development, mine output and mill recovery rates. Ideally you will have experience at the General Manager level for five to ten years, but candidates with less experience will be considered. You will have had previous experience in an open pit, hard-rock mining environment and be confident in your ability to maximize the efficient operation of a truck and shovel mine.
Given the scope of this opportunity, the successful candidate will enjoy an excellent remuneration package and the opportunity to work with a growing international mining organization. For information on this role, please contact Graham Lade at Hays Resources and Mining at
